Living in the 21st Century offers an artist a smorgasboard of fabulous images with which to work. Modern life is full of contradictions - one can change location without moving a muscle, eg 'Static Motion' or where a plaque in the pavement tells you this is a "Safe City- Security Cameras Moniter this space" - does this mean, whilst you are being mugged, someone is watching? Does this make the city safe? So the young child looks up.. for what? Then we have cafes, both indoor and outdoor, full of pattern and bustle. All of these moments happen everyday and we often pass them by as being too inconsequential to be worthy of note. I love to stop and absorb such momnets as purely 'today', eg the smoker in " No Man's Land' taking his break, having a cigarette, out on the wet pavement, the only place left for this, now anti social behaviour. I am sure that in the future even this space will be out of bounds.
