WHO AM I?
I have been creating images in a variety of 2D media for many decades. I started as a printmaker but quickly realised that although I enjoyed the surprise element of the printmaking process I hated the repetitive nature of producing editions. Then I discovered watercolour. The capricious nature of this medium always keeps me off balance and provides the unexpected happenings that I so enjoy as part of the creative process.
I live in the Australian bush surrounded by native trees and plants as well as Australian animals like kangaroos and echidnas and many birds. My studio is set in this natural environment with all its subtle colour and patterns. Just beyond my driveway I am in suburbia, complete with cafe latte and all the associated aspects of modern life.
This duality (natural bush and urban structure) feeds my interest in pattern and colour forming the basis of all my imagery. The completely different design elements found in both settings satisfy the need for variety in my work.
Exploring the fragility of the natural world and our relationship with it forms another aspect of my work. Living in a city people are disconnected from the basic rhythms of nature. I see and cherish both urban and rural worlds.
This website is about my images.
