WHO AM I?
I have been creating images in a variety of 2D media for many decades. I started as a printmaker but quickly realised that although I enjoyed the surprise element of the printmaking process I hated the repetitive nature of producing editions.
Then I discovered watercolour. The capricious nature of this medium always keeps me off balance and provides the unexpected happenings that I so enjoy as part of the creative process.
I live in the Australian bush surrounded by native trees, kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas and many birds. My studio is surrounded by this natural environment with all its subtle pathways and colour patterns. Just beyond my driveway I am in suburbia, complete with cafe latte and all the associated aspects of modern life.
This duality (natural bush and urban structure) feeds my interests in pattern and colour which forms the basis of all my imagery. The completely different design elements found in both settings satisfy the need for variety in my work.
Creating strong designs that reflect life today is more important than making pretty pictures.
Exploring the fragility of the natural world and our relationship with it forms another as[ect of my work. Living in a city space can distance people form the basic rhythms of natuire. I see both the urban and the rural and cherish both.
This website is about my images. You can explore another aspect of my artistic life where I mentor and share my skills on my Tuition website. Follow this link
